The Chair of the Southborough Cricket Club, David Smith, has spoken about the huge growth in interest in playing cricket locally.
In an interview with Martin Webber on the Friday drivetime show at 6pm, David Smith outlined how the club had been involved the England Cricket Board's "All Stars" programme targetting children age 5 to 8 since it began in 2017.
David Smith (below) said: "It's given you really good visibility of junior cricket on the common...and its helped us developed a girls section as well off the back of that".
He continued: "We now have 2 teams of under 11 and under 13s.... and we have girls teams of under 11 and under 15 too". Getting all the matches scheduled means "a lot of spinning plates".
Southborough Cricket Club will be celebrating 225 years with special events this summer.
The club is currently appealing for funds to replace an outdated roller that keeps the pitch flat.
