New DAB Digital Licence Awarded for West Kent

Several new digital DAB radio stations will take to the air, following the offer of a license from Ofcom

West Kent Radio makes its own news this afternoon.

Ofcom, the radio regulator, has offered a new digital DAB licence to the company of which West Kent Radio is a partner.

West Kent DAB Limited is a three-way partnership between West Kent Radio, the local FM community station, and two other experienced parties.

Kent Capacity Ltd and Muxcom Ltd will work with West Kent Radio, to finance and install three new digital DAB transmitters, in Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, and Maidstone.

The new system, known as a multiplex, can host several radio stations simultaneously. The application to Ofcom listed over a dozen radio services, that could start broadcasting within the next 18 months.
