Make the Right Call

Who would you call if you saw someone in trouble in a river?

If you see someone struggling in water, making the right call to the right emergency service can not only save time, it can help to save their life.

If you see someone struggling in inland water ...

Call 999 and ask for the fire service. 

You'll be put through to one of our Control operators who will ask you where you are and about the person in the water. Please give as much information as you can. Our Control operator might also ask you if there’s a throwline or life ring nearby. If there is, they will give you instructions on how to use it. 

Remember ...

  • keep the person in your sight 
  • let the control operator know if you lose sight of them, or if they go under the water. 
  • don’t attempt to enter the water yourself.
