Major Refurbishment

The Post Office in Frant has been officially reopened offering seven-day opening.

This has restored a Post Office to Frant after the previous postmistress resigned in February 2024.

The inside of the premises at the The Green and an adjoining cafe have both been refurbished.

There were delays to the reopening caused by planning delays as the shops are listed buildings.

The new postmaster, Paramanathan Nisanathan, had applied for planning permission to combine the two premises into one.

That alteration was not permitted so instead there was a major refit to modernise the inside of both of the shops.

Nusrat Ghani MP for Sussex Weald “cut the ribbon” on May 16th at the official opening.

Nusrat Ghani MP said: “The Post Office provides vital services, which are key for residents of our rural constituency. I have been working with several communities across Sussex Weald to keep our Post Offices from Groombridge to Hailsham open and thriving, and I am pleased that following months of temporary closure, Frant’s services have now been restored and expanded under a new ownership".

Nusrat Ghani said: "Paramanathan and Nityapiraba have done a fantastic job in modernising the Post Office and enhancing it with a café, and I wish them all the very best for the years ahead.”

The new Post Office opening hours are Monday to Sunday: 7am – 8pm. This offers 91 hours per week – double the previous hours of the branch.
The café is open Monday to Friday: 7am - 3pm. The postal address is TN3 9DR.

Paramanathan and his wife Nityapiraba, have four shops in Kent.

Nityapiraba will continue to run their other Post Office in the village of Crockenhill, Swanley, which they have run for five years. They are supported by newly trained staff.

Postmaster Paramanathan Nisanathan said: “The community is really pleased to have a Post Office in the heart of the village again and we are sorry that this took much longer than we planned. We are used to serving Kent communities with our other shops and we are enjoying to get to know the people of Frant.”

“The branch is now open daily from early until late, so it’s very easy to pop in. People can do their everyday banking here, send and return parcels and to play the lottery. Our café also serves breakfast, sandwiches, cakes, drinks and snacks.”

Post Office Area Change Manager, Noah Rai, said: “We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are delighted to have re-opened Frant Post Office. The opening hours make it easy to visit.”

With over 11,500 branches, Post Office has the biggest retail network in the UK, with more branches than all the banks and building societies combined.

The Post Office says it is helping anyone who wants cash to get it whichever way is most convenient.

A partnership with over 30 banks, building societies and credit unions means that 99% of UK bank customers can access their accounts at their Post Office, which also offers 1,400 free-to-use ATMs across the UK.
