Installing Lifts

The MP for Tunbridge Wells, Mike Martin, has started a petition to urge the government to fund a big investment at High Brooms railway station.

The station has a very steep staircase providing the only access to one of the platforms.

Those stairs prevent wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs from taking the train at High Brooms.

A detailed plan to provide lifts has already been drawn up - but still lacks funding.

Listen here to Mike Martin MP explaining to West Kent Radio why people should add their name to the petition.

Full details of how to sign the petition are given here:

The steep staircase is shown below:

Cllr Alan Bullion, who has campaigned with other residents over many years for step free access to High Brooms, welcomed Mike Martin's intervention.

Cllr Bullion said: “Mike got in touch with me about the petition, and I am happy to hear that he’s following up the hard work of Greg Clark, the previous MP, in trying to get the long-awaited upgrade and accessibility works to commence at High Brooms station. Whilst we have been re-assured that High Brooms is at long last on the local shortlist, it is also helpful for the new local MP to lend his support.”
