Tunbridge Wells Housing Policy

Martin Webber has been speaking to Hugo Pound and Stewart Gledhill about the local housing policy.

The national planning inspector has now given his verdict on the latest housing plan by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council– and it turns out the inspector has some big reservations about the proposals.

He’s suggested the council consider cancelling a central part of that plan, which is a controversial scheme to build a new settlement of 3,000 homes on farmland near Capel.  A group called "Save Capel" and Tonbridge Borough Council strongly oppose the new so-called Tudeley "Garden Village."

West Kent councils have struggled to produce robust plans that satisfy central government targets for new house building.

Martin Webber spoke to Hugo Pound who is the council’s cabinet member in charge of housing. Martin asked Hugo for his summary of the housing inspector’s report.
