Big Fines for Tunbridge Wells Drivers

Over £2m in fines so far, but are they dropping?

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council has now pulled in £ 1.5 million in revenue from fines imposed on mostly confused drivers who have found themselves in a restricted "bus lane" area in the town centre.

Local resident Sally Atkinson points out this scheme also means locals have to drive a mile-long loop when they search for a parking space. She says she is "fed up and frustrated" by the diversions caused by the bus lane traffic restrictions outside the war memorial.

She says councillors from all political parties have done nothing to help after 15 months of pressure.

The council says air quality is being improved in the town and the number of fines every day is going down.
